The brief was simple for Race Face - take everything they
had learned about materials and wheel design and ask themselves: “if
they could wipe the slate clean, how would they make the best wheelset
possible?” When they say ‘best’ they are not talking about the lightest,
or the stiffest, but rather the optimal balance between the features
they deemed to be important. In determining the ideal balance each
criterion was ranked to streamline the decision-making process: 1.
Durability / 2. Stiffness / 3.Serviceability / 4.Engagement / 5.Weight /
6.Cosmetics / 7.Cost. This doesn’t mean we weren’t concerned with cost
or cosmetics, but rather that when a decision arose between say,
cosmetics or stiffness, Race Face would choose the stiffer option. They
knew the hub could not be a boat anchor but, at the same time,
durability was a critical goal so the focus was on durability as opposed
to weight.
The Turbine R30s are a very solid option for those
who demand the best from their wheels whilst on the trails. Bomb-proof
rims that look as good as they perform. The rims are wide and strong
with a hub that engages quickly. If you're looking for your next set of
wheels - the Turbine R30's at this price are a very safe bet.
