GENUINE America American U.S. Army 75th Ranger Regiment sleeve patch insignia 

Formed in 1974 the modern Ranger battalions were first called upon in 1980 when elements of 1st Ranger Battalion participated in ‘Operation Eagle claw’ Iranian hostage-rescue mission. 

In August 1993, elements of 75th Rangers deployed to Somalia to help U.N. Forces bring order to  the chaotic and starving nation. On 3 October 1993, the Rangers conducted a daylight raid with Delta Force.

They captured the high-value targets but the ensuing Battle of Mogadishu ended in chaos as the American forces were trapped for hours inside the city by Somalian militias, due to a series of planning and command errors, resulting in the death of several American soldiers. Rangers held improvised positions for nearly 18 hours, killing between 500 and 1,000 Somalis before American QRF, Pakistani, and Malaysian troops with armor rescued them and the American troops could retreat. The mission was dramatised in the movie ‘Blackhawk Down’

This is an ORIGINAL United States Army issue patch. Fully embroidered with correct merrowed edge.

This insignia only existed for a very short period of time, and therefore examples are very difficult to find.

The design of the patch is based on the WWII 'Merrills Marauders Special Forces' insignia.

This is a genuine new 'old stock issue' U.S. Army patch and came from a dated storage box. Correct Schiffli period embroidery. In mint unissued condition.

Important note! 

In times past the U.S. Military specified that all sleeve patches should be made on ‘Schiffli’ machines. In more recent years the production of these insignias has moved to modern multi head machines. 

This patch is an OLD VINTAGE PATCH made some years ago on a ‘Schiffli’ machine. It’s a genuine item - NOT a modern issue patch and NOT an Asian reproduction. Note that it is  fully embroidered and has the distinctive tell tale piece of tape on the reverse, typical of these older patches. It is also the exact pattern of patch worn during the Vietnam conflict 50 years ago.
