This beautiful gameboard board made from premium wood is easy to learn, but challenging to ace! Hnefatafl (NEF-uh-TAH-ful), or "King's Table" is commonly called Tafl or Viking Chess, and is a game pre-dating Chess and is possibly the inspiration to Chess. The simple piece movements are easy to learn because all pieces except the king move like chess rooks: horizontally or vertically.

Comprehensive and easy-to-understand instructions are included with the game. It's very easy and quick to set up and learn. The game premise is: the king is defending against the surrounding invaders. The game ends when the king reaches an edge to escape or is surrounded and forced to surrender.
The game set comes with an engraved gameboard, game pieces, cotton pouch for pieces, game instructions, and game case. The Special Edition comes with an artwork insert.
The default game board is a premium walnut wood, with walnut and maple pieces for the opposing sides. Many options for choice of wood are available, such as Cherrywood, Maple, Ash, Bubinga, and Birch. If you'd like a particular wood that isn't displayed, or would like the game pieces to be made from different woods from the defaults, please message the seller so that it can be made available to you!
A limited edition artwork is available, which includes an insert of a 3d engraved depiction in chipboard of Viking ships on rough waters.
The game piece bag comes with a large letter/rune. If you'd like a particular letter/rune instead of a random one, please message the seller!
Viking Chessboard measurements: 11.75” Long, 11.75” Wide, and 1/8” Thick. Game Pieces count: 38. Approximate set up time: 1-2 min. Suggested age is 7 and up. Cleaning instructions: Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Take care not to put too much pressure on board or it may split.
