This listing is for the Campo meteorite pendant in the photo.

CAMPO DEL CIELO METEORITE (IA) coarse Octahedrite with silicate inclusions. This great meteorite was first discovered in 1572 by Spanish explorers in Chaco, Argentina. Thousands of pieces have been found near some impact craters, the largest weighing an immense 35 TONS! These pieces are from a new find, many miles from the original strewnfield. They are being found on a mountainside, several feet underground. They are gorgeous individuals, fully regmaglypted, with no rust! The old Campos are found in the lowlands and have been immersed damp soil for centuries and as a result they are rust balls.  These come from a location where there is no standing water thus are in great condition, rivaling Gibeon in character. These are great investment pieces, as they are great looking large meteorites.

History The first record of the Campo was in 1576. A Spanish governor learned of the iron from the Indians who reportedly believed that it had fallen from heaven. The governor sent an expedition under the command of one Captain de Miraval who brought back a few pieces of a huge iron mass he called Meson de Fierro (large table of iron). The location of the find was the Campo del Cielo (field of the sky or heaven), a fitting name for the location of a meteorite. Since the Indians believed that the irons fell from heaven the name may have come from the meteorites. The area is an open brush-covered plain that has little water and no other rocks--very good country in which to locate meteorites.

The Campo del Cielo is described as a polycrystalline coarse octahedrite.

An information card with the location, structure and minerals of the Campo del Cielo Meteorite will be included.
