France, ca. 1940 LE CORBEAU ET LE RENARD medal, by Jean Vernon (Author of famous Normandie Ship Medal), 59mm 105grs approx, depicting a famous Fable / poem from Jean de La Fontaine, in very fine condition as scanned, rim knocks, edge marked with horn of plenty* (Paris mint) + bronze".

The Fox and the Crow is one of Aesop's Fables, numbered 124 in the Perry Index. There are early Latin and Greek versions and the fable may even have been portrayed on an ancient Greek vase. The story is used as a warning against listening to flattery.

Jean de La Fontaine (July 8, 1621April 13, 1695) was the most famous French fabulist and probably the most widely read French poet of the 17th century. According to Flaubert, he was the only French poet to understand and master the texture of the French language before Hugo.
