 DESCRIPTION:
Very rare. Incredibly scarce and absolutely gorgeous. Heavy, substantial bronze-clad over plaster, American Arts and Crafts, figurative antique pair of classical bookends, featuring a woman with linen robe reclining on a huge, carved oak wooden chair, which looks more like a throne. They're signed 'S. Morani, 1914.' There are a few breaks or splits of the bronze clad covers, mostly barely noticeable and found at the back of one bookend and on the baseplate and bottom front facia of the other. These areas were previously hand colored to disguise these 'knocks' and damage that occurred to them long ago. The figuration and most importantly, the fronts of both bookends are intact and without any noticeable damage. They were realized by the National Metalizing Company, New York City, later becoming the Armor Bronze Company. They're titled 'Silence.' This pair of bronze clad bookends pre-dates Armor's shield company logo found marked on later pieces by the same company, making these particularly early and subsequently, very scarce. Now 109 years old. Absolutely gorgeous. Of all the maladies and unfortunate events that could have happened to this antique pair of bookends, it's amazing and quite fortunate, the damage incurred by them is barely visible and doesn't detract from their overall outstanding beauty and intrinsic value. Very fine. Bring a little American Arts and Crafts artistry into your home. They won't disappoint. Truly lovely pieces. What's on your desk, mantle or bookshelf?

 CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
