  • Hardcover with dust jacket; 479 pages; Size Approx. 6 3/4 X 9 1/2.
  • Published by Castle; copyright 1988.

Details: "Yet another enchanting and fascinating volume on the pleasures, sights, happenings and places of old New England.  Here you'll find out about the latest developments in Litchfield a hundred years ago; about the wind-swept waters of Buzzards Bay; the very latest - in 1885 - on the Harvard-Yale Race; and the simple joys of holiday-making on Nantucket Island.
Here are the simple things of a simpler time brought back with clarity and vividness in this remarkable collection of stories, articles and more from the past of a hundred years ago.  Illustrated with original engravings, drawings and cuts, Tales of Bygone New England is a treasure trove of the pastoral qualities of the farms and villages across the Northeast, but also of the bustle and commerce of the cities.
This is the New England we all wish we could have experienced.  This book will let you do just that, at a distance to be sure, but with genuine pleasure, all the same."  (from the dust jacket flap)
The book has a blue hardcover binding with black lettering on the spine; lovely illustrations in black and white only.
A fine addition for your bookshelf!

Condition:  There is an address sticker in the front of the book; the pages are tanned; otherwise the book is in very good condition with a firm binding and clean pages.  The dust jacket is in very good condition.

About Us:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free.

We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.

Customer Service:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!

Packaging:

We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.

Delivery:

We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
