Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at an Astatic 77 model microphone from the 1950's. This was a high quality Dynamic cardioid microphone offered by Astatic and was their answer to the very popular Shure Brothers 55S model mic at the time. This particular unit has been tested and thoroughly cleaned. While this 77 still has 100% of it's original components the element no longer works and isn't suitable for any live or recording purposes. This should be used for prop or display purposes only until a replacement element is used. It comes with the Astatic desk stand shown.

This would still make an excellent display piece and even make a great candidate for a mic lamp. This 77 has a classic midcentury vibe with aggressive looks and was used by many musicians of that era as the mic had a fantastic sound.

Pic # 2 shows an old data sheet with this very model and it's basic characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows a young Jerry Lee Lewis using the Astatic 77A while performing live in concerts. It was one of his go to model mics for many years.

As you can see there are typical lite signs of wear on the mic. No dents, engravings or nicks. Just some very fine scratches & pitting. The black silk screen is 100% complete in the rear shows a bit more wear and is coming loose on the bottom. There are zero rips in the screens too which is always a bonus. The joint mechanism holds strong and the mic head tilts backwards as needed. The thumb screws tighten firmly in place as well. The on / off switch slides smoothly as well. The 77 came with an impedance switch located on the bottom front of the head and it works as it should. The rear Astatic label is still partially present though mostly worn off. Everything is tight on this mic.

This Astatic 77 is a solid 7 out of a scale of 1 - 10 on the cosmetic side. The 77 has an elegant, timeless look that set these vintage mics apart from most others of that era and presently. Though several Japanese manufacturers tried to replicate the 77's style they never really made anything as beautiful as Astatic's 77. The 77A had superior styling and sound over the competition. Really one of the most admired and famous of mics from the 1950's.

This microphone will only work on an Astatic F-11 adapter, SC-11 adapter or astatic stand and one is provided.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF SALE...

It's a a 1950's era Astatic TUG "push to talk" model microphone desk stand. This is a design that has a polished aluminum base with polished chrome riser and lever. This model was widely produced by Astatic during the 1950's to present and makes a very stable platform for this mic.

This particular E.V stand has typical lite cosmetic wear as you can see. Some very small scuff marks, scratches and tiny pitting. There is are no dents or fractures on this stand. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. The stand is not properly wired so you'll have to rewire it if you want it to work down the road. There is a short cable exiting out the base of the stand with a female 1/4 inch end connector. The original black felt pad is still present and in great shape.

Mic stand with mic is appx 15 inches tall X 5 1/2 inches wide.

 Mic stand is a true 7 on a scale of 1 - 10.
