Bonjour, welcome to Les Toiles Blanches stock!

here is a gorgeous antique bed sheet that dates c1930.

The fabric is a fine medium weight linen fil with a floppy fluid rolling texture and a just off the white tone.

The bed sheet has the perfect triangle Art Deco building monogram with a large AL framed in a medaillon and surrounded by large dots and Richelieu embroideries.

Under the monogram are embroidered square openworks hand crafted with large dots, a classic Art Deco decor that runs all the width of the sheet and on the large turn down. Up and down those delicate motives, there is a row of large ladder works that frame the openworks.

The work of embroideries, especially the dots, is crafted by very skilled hands.

Please note the measurements of the sheet, long and wide as the trousseaux bed sheets are!

This trousseau linen sheet is in a fine flawless condition.
I have freshly laundered and pressed this bed sheet, it is ready to use!

Amazing to use a s a sheet because of the soft linen fil fabric, but also gorgeous used a s a window treatment!

FIL OF LINEN BED SHEETS

Fil de lin is the term we use in France to describe the finest quality fibers of the softer part of the flax. Those fil de lin bed sheets are the purest fluid fabric, supple, medium to heavy weight with a stunning floppy hand and a silky touch. They are typical antique linen trousseau dowry with a wonderful tactile texture. These bed sheets are usually wide, embroidered with beautifully crafted monogram and openworks that run the whole width and on the discovery, for the turn down of the sheet. Some of those exceptional sheets were meant to be exposed, we call them ceremonial sheets. The sheet overflows from the bed with a multitude of ornaments, laces and embroideries.  A pure delight to sleep in those sheets, thanks to their dramatic falling, they can decorate any window or sofa beautifully as well.

Textile Care

Antique linen is a living material, if you treasure it, it will reward you a hundred times. A lot of antique textiles are so robust and wonderfully easy to wash and maintain. The fibres of these exceptional fabrics were grown without any use of chemical, these textiles are organic. No need to use chemicals to wash antique textiles, a good simple natural soap such as the savon de Marseille is fine for every kind of linen. The textiles can be machine washed on warm. The warmer ithey will be washed, the softer and floppier they will turn. Again, no need to use a softener, a dash of white vinegar or a spoon of baking soda are perfect to maintain these wonderful textiles. Dry them on the line if possible, expose them under sun light to brighten the natural white.

information

The textiles I propose show signs of times, marks that are a moving, precious treasure which attests a bygone era. I will always try to describe them as accuratly as possible, giving many details, measurements and pictures to show the reality of the linen. Estimating the age of a fabric is not scientific but rather archeologic, many signs are useful, such as the stitches, the embroideries, the sewing, the colour, the texture, even the smell of the fabrics can help. Sometimes, the auctionneers or the owners give me precious information about the origin of the trousseau, monograms, name of the ancestors. Experience is also crucial to feel and judge the fiber content, the age, the origin or the use of the textile. I will strive to describe the textiles in the most complete way, using my honest judgement, having spent many years manipulating them.

Please note my textiles come from a smoke free house. When they are freshly laundered, the textiles have been washed with natural organic soap and sun dried on line. I recently started selling my treasures, new items will be on sale very often, so please keep your eyes peeled!
