PAIR OF RARE ANTIQUE JENNINGS BROTHERS (JB) SOUTHERNBELLE FIGURAL BOOKENDS, SILVER PLATE

Rare Antique Silver-Plated Jennings Brothers Figural Bookendsfrom an important southern estate. They are very unique and hard to find. Eachpiece depicts a lady / girl in a dress with fan and hat, sitting in a chair. Silverplate over hollow-cast.  Very finedetails on the figures; one fan’s tip has crack; some of the silver plate wornoff in one bookend.  Both pieces sit flatand stable.  See picture for details.

Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company hasproduced some of the most finely crafted art metal pieces in the early 1900’s. Their creations included high grade bookends, candlesticks, jewelry boxes,lamps and figurative items.  JB’s timely and expensive productiontechniques relied on the talent and handwork of expert artists, sculptorsand metal craftsmen. This did not lend itself to machine-directedmass-production, and hiring such talent became an economic burden thatthreatened the company’s survival. By the early 1940s, JB changed theirmanufacturing operations to focus on the War effort.

All of JB pieces are made of cast graymetal.  Even though many pieces are done by famous artists, most are notdirectly artist signed.  All are marked with the letters JB.  Thereis no other manufacturer whose finishing techniques remain as durable asJennings Brothers.  JB bookends and animal figurines are highly prized bycollectors worldwide.
