If, like us, you record outside - this will be a rather useful product. It's meant to be one of those rather ineffective solutions for recording inside, in a poor sounding reflective room, but we found a great alternate use they are rather good at!

We recorded a choir - a regular client of ours, but nobody mentioned it would be outside, and you can guess what happened - only a modest breeze, but it wrecked the recording. One of our suppliers offered us these products - sold asa min version of the vocal shields, where the idea is to cut down the room reflections, but they're clearly too small to be effective.

We discovered that what they are good at is allowing you to use mics that respond badly to wind. A Shure SM58 isn't too bad, but an AKG 414 outside is really susceptible to wind. with these, you simply mount the mic, and then fold the screen around, so it is surrounded on three sides by the foam. It doesn't cut it completely, of course, but they can be a real problem solver. If you look at the pics, you'll see exactly how they work. The foam is fairly standard pyramid foam, similar to the wall tile type material - so not brilliant for reducing reflections, but good for wind!
