Rolls / Bags / RAM - Definitions
RAM rolls - A RAM roll refers to a roll of coins from the Royal Australian
Mint (RAM). Coins from the RAM are often packaged in rolls, which consist of a
set number of coins, usually wrapped in paper or plastic, and are commonly used
for storage, transportation, or distribution purposes. These rolls are often
purchased by collectors, numismatists or dealers who are usually willing to pay
a premium as these rolls were guaranteed to contain the coin depicted on the
end of the roll
Security Rolls - Security rolls are rolls of coins that have been packaged and
secured by a professional security company, such as Armaguard or Prosegur. The
purpose of security rolls is to provide added protection for the coins during transportation
or storage making them an excellent choice for collectors.
Security Bags – like security rolls, security coin bags are a package of coins
that have been secured by a professional security company. These bags are used
to transport or store coins in a secure manner and are designed to prevent
theft or tampering. Security coin bags are popular among collectors as you can
guarantee that every coin in the bank is the same (visually) and is easier to
put away in storage.
Common Coin Grading Terms
Circ (Circulated) – refers to coins that have been released to the public and which
have been used in transactions, showing some sign of wear such as scratches or
loss of the original shine. The circulated coins I sell have been double
checked to ensure they are in good condition and no major flaws.
aUNC (Almost Uncirculated) – refers to coins that have been
used in minimum transactions but are in exceptionally good condition with
minimal signs of wear. From a quick glance, it should be hard to tell the difference
between a coin that is aUNC or UNC due to its pristine condition.
UNC (Uncirculated) – refers to coins that have not undergone commercial circulation
and usually have been taken directly from the mint via rolls or coins sets.
These coins are in their original ‘mint state’ and as they have not been
handled by the public, are highly sought after by collectors. Nowadays,
complete coin bags and rolls packaged by security companies are also commonly
accepted by the public as “uncirculated” – however is important to note that
due to the fast-paced production process, may show some minor imperfections
like light scratching or paint chipping.
