Vintage YaoZhou Kiln Song Dynasty Style Porcelain Reverse Flowing Teapot. This is an awesome reproduction of the original YaoZhou kiln design most popular from the Song Dynasty. It is a bulbous shape whose outside surface has hand cut lotus blossoms surrounding suckling cub on a mother tiger whose open mouth becomes the teapot spout. The handle is a flying phoenix. The celadon glaze gives the darker green in the depths of the pattern. Such a cool pattern and design and would make an awesome display piece. Circa 1970s when Yaozhou Ware Antique Reproduction Factory brought the famous kiln back to life in Huangpu Tongehuan Shaanxi China.

Unlike most teapots, the Reverse Teapot has its lid and body connected, therefore it cannot be opened from above. Instead, there is a hole at the bottom in which water can be poured into. During this process the teapot is turned upside down and when the pot is filled it is righted again. When tilted, water will flow from the spout similar to other teapots. The interesting part is that during this entire process, neither the spout nor the hole on the bottom will drip water.
