A beautifully hand painted and highly collectable decorative antique Japanese Arita porcelain parrot figurine or okimono decorated in the traditional gosai-de (五彩手). The five colours of green, blue, yellow, red and purple, this style of decoration is usually associated with Kutani (The Nine Valleys) and is termed Ko Kutani style or (再興九谷 ) Saikō-Kutani - revived Kutani. This Parrot shaped figurine dates to the late 19th century in the Meiji period (1868-1912) circa 1870.

The body has been finely moulded with low relief feathers that have been hand painted to give a realistic effect. The beak has been gilded. The bird is perched on top of a tree stump with three large root stems in a tripod shape. There are budding green shoots sprouting from the base and the parrot is clutching onto one of them with his clawed feet. Most probably made in the area around the town of Arita, Saga Prefecture, in the former Hizen Province, of north western Kyūshu island of Japan.

This beautiful antique Japanese porcelain vase is in excellent antique condition with some glaze crazing, no chips, cracks nor restoration, There is some wear to the gilding on the beak. Please see the images.
