The 1st settlement in the area of Cottonwood Falls was in 1854, and in a few decades a franchise was granted for a light company.

In 1893, two young citizens of the town, Lawrence Gustin and J J Comer, built a generator, and provided light only after dark.

In the winter of 1904, or spring of 1905, W.G. Smith from Boliver, Missouri, with the Johnson Brothers, Elmer and Bruce, formed a company that was the forerunner of the present company. They purchased some equipment and started building their plant.

In 1918, when electricity and the Home Light and Power Company had become a permanent fixture, the name of the company was changed to Inter County Electric Company.

A very cool piece that reverberates with the history of human ingenuity and determination to progress.
