This stylized  "tree trunk" majolica  is impressive in size and decoration:  relief flowers, protruding branches, foliage and ferns. The formation of the branches are such that they serve as handles to carry or move the stand with ease. There are several  old chips along the exterior wall close to the top. The chips are shallow so they do not show along the top edges except for one. The "bark-like" texture and finish  make the issues less significant. The stand has an open drain at the bottom. No stopper.  This piece is solid and is structurally sound. There are no cracks. Overall good condition relative to age and size.  Based on make, style and decoration, this major piece of majolica is presumably English.   Buyer is advised to closely examine all photos and research information provided. The height of the stand is 16 3/4"; width varies from 11 1/2" at the base including drain, 10" with the handles and 9" at the top. Item is being sold  AS IS, Item by itself is app 16 lbs. Unmarked.
Information gleaned from  majolica specialty websites leads seller to believe this piece is English presumably by Joseph Holdcroft or George Jones. The naturalistic design, the apple blossoms, the ferns and leaves align with themes executed by the aforementioned potteries. There are at least 2 similar items found in auction archives but  the pieces do not have the handles. Both are also unmarked.
