AMAZING RED SATIN DRESS! A TRUE GEM...

This sensational vintage Fit and Flare, A- line, all silk satin  party dress in jungle-red was tailor made in the mid 1950’s by the renowned Dynasty Dressmakers in the Dynasty Salon at the Peninsula Hotel in the (then) British Crown Colony of Hong Kong. 

This was my grandmothers dress that she had made while in Hong Kong in 1956.

DETAILS

-From the 1950’s (made in 1956)

-Full skirt

-Zipper, hook and eye closure (the “eye” needs to be replaced)

-The color is a solid deep ruby red

-100% Satin/Silk shell and lining

-The unique and brilliant rounded “belt” is of the same red silk/satin and measures 75” in length and has a diameter of aprox 3/4” . It is tube shaped and filled with light foam and It easily ties, like ribbon, into a bow as is displayed in photos. It can be worn (or not worn) any way the wearer chooses. There are 2 almost undetectable belt loops in red silk on the right and left sides off the torso of the dress.

MEASUREMENTS (are approximate, taken while flat and doubled when appropriate )

SHOULDERS - 17”

BUST - 36”

WAIST - 28”

HIPS - 38”

LENGTH (Metal BACK ZIPPER CLOSURE TO HEM) - 36”

OPENING AT SKIRTS BOTTOM HEM - 34”

PADDED BELT - 75” long

Condition is excellent. This dress has been in dry storage for aprox 40 yrs,  but hasn’t been dry cleaned since it’s unearthing.

-There are 2 very faint spots/discolorations on the skirts backside and doesn’t show when wearing and could very well be dry cleaned away.

Also the eye of the hook and eye closure will need to be replaced or mended. Their dress had just the heavy threading for an eye. No metal.

Otherwise there are no tears, holes, flaws, noticeable stains or odors.

This dress is a real star and always elicits “oohs” and “ahhs” from all who see it and, I suspect, even more excitement from those lucky enough to wear it...

It was my grandmothers 1st trip abroad and the dresses from the Dynasty Salon were her primary motivation for going to Hong Kong. . Just a few months later Dynasty began selling their gorgeous dresses and gowns in US stores like Saks, Neiman Marcus and I. Magnin.
