The name "satsuma" refers to a type of Japanese pottery that is known for its bright colors and intricate designs. The term "faux Moriage" means "fake luster," and refers to the way that the plates are decorated.

Satsuma faux Moriage plates were often given as gifts

or purchased as souvenirs to tourists visiting Japan

nine-sided plates are common in Japan. They are called 菊皿 (kikkazara), which means "chrysanthemum plate". The chrysanthemum is a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture.

Vintage and preowned, this plate is in great condition with no chips or cracks. There is heavy crazing and staining on the edges of the reverse of the plate. It does not have any large noticeable patches of missing paint but there is some wear to the gold trim and may be missing tiny spots of the 3D raised paint.
