All my reel-to-reel (R2R) tapes are inExcellent to Near Mint condition. Condition of the boxes vary fromVery Good +(VG+) to Excellent/Near Mint (EX/NM). Check details andphotos for specifics. Unless otherwise noted, I bought most of thesetapes directly from record stores and department stores at or neartheir original market availability dates. All were kept in theiroriginal boxes in smoke-free, climate controlled environments, andaway from anything with magnetic fields (such as speaker cabinets, electronic devices, etc.). All play with magnificent soundreproduction. Speeds are either 7.5 IPS or 3.75 IPS as noted in theirabove description.
Unlike Vinyl records, which are allsusceptible to fidelity degradation due to dust and dirt accumulationand scratches/skips to record grooves thus interfering with ultimatesound quality, R2R tapes are mastered from original studiorecordings. They surpass audio quality of more readily availablecassettes, which moved at slower speeds and skinny tape format, and8-track cartridges which crammed 8 tracks on similar tape stock, notto mention their pre-set, constant head shifting movements, sometimesin the middle of songs. Virtually all R2R tapes manufactured byrecording companies were produced directly from the studio mastertapes, giving the listening public a front row seat in the recordingstudio! Following the introduction of Compact Discs (CDs) in the1980's, vinyl records/cassettes/R2R tapes all but disappeared. Butonce you hear the full, analog richness of Reel-to-Reel, you willappreciate the warmth of the original recordings.
