‘makruk’

THE ANCIENT GAME OF CAMBODIA

Cambodia is home to one of the most ancient surviving chess forms in the world. Pictured on the ancient walls of Angkor Watt, still played today on the streets, in cafes and in high level ceremonial tournaments, this is truly one of the great games of the world.

PLEASE REVIEW ALL PHOTOS

These sets vary widely in quality and condition.
Please observe the quality of the wood, the relative sizes of the pieces, and the carving of the particular set.
Cracks in wood, unusual grain patterns, signs of age and wear are apparent in some sets.
Close-up and detailed photos are selected to show any unusual characteristics.
Relative size of kings is indicated with a ruler -- sorry for bad auto-focus in some of these pictures.
Let us know if you have questions.

DURABLE CAMBODIAN STYLE PLAYING MAT

While you may prefer to set these chessmen on a high quality standard board, the traditional Cambodian chessboard does not have the alternate colors so familiar to Western players.
This playing mat is of durable vinyl, showing a photographic reproduction of a top-quality crafted board from Cambodia.

RULES INCLUDED

The rules of Cambodian chess are strikingly different from the modern international game, and more similar to the chess that was played centuries ago.
A rule booklet is included with this set, so that the player may begin playing immediately in the true Cambodian style.
