The Favorit bicycle is one of the few to call Czechlovakia home. Though bicycle manufacturing began in Czechlovakia in the 1870's, the Favorit bicycle did not entered into production in the 1950's and continued until 2004, or close to it. During that time many Favorit bicycles were imported into Canada.

It was in 1950, the starting year for the Favorit bicycle company, that racing bicycles began to emerge. Apparently, the first bikes, or close to it, we made for the Czechlovakia national bicycle team. As one might expect, those bikes featured quality materials and were built by experienced crafts people who knew how to build great bikes.

The Favorit racing style bicycle increased in prominence until the late sixties and early seventies. Some of the early races were full Campagnolo Nouvo Record, and featured quality materials, coupled with what can only be called craftsman like construction, for the most part. Needless to say, the company also offered recreational racers and in much larger numbers. The bicycle feature on this page is one of those.

Favorit bicycles were made entirely in house. The frame sets and all components were domestically manufactured and fitted to the bicycle. So too were many brand name Favorit tools issued in the early days. Almost every component would be pantographed or etched with the Favorit name.

Apparently a great many Favorit bicycles were imported into Canada during the early seventies and beyond. These bikes ranged from top of the line to very cheap recreational copies of what a road bicycle could and perhaps should be. But many of the Favorit line proved to be somewhat impressive, though not overpoweringly so.
