66 Land Reclamation

Here is a film to startle conservationists!

It is not so long ago that farmers were being urged to increase output to feed a hungry country.

One way was to reclaim overgrown and neglected land to grow more food. Amongst the techniques show are bulldozing hedges, dynamiting trees, controlled burning, land drainage including film of the Albion Cuthbertson Water Buffalo and the lorry mounted chain trenchers as well an mole ploughs and ditching works.

Nice sequence of a Priestman Cub dragline at work as well.

A revealing counterblast to people who advocate neglecting farm land in the hope that some other country will feed us.

Date uncertain but probably made about 1960s as some of the scenes were used in another film of this period.  Colour with excellent soundtrack.  20 minutes.

Technical Note. This is a DVD record of a private screening. Transfer quality is to enable the contents to be studied rather than to achieve the  high standard achieved by professional broadcast and commercial video  publishers
