A uniform collar badge for the Carpathian Lancers Regiment, World War 2.

This distinctive badge originated in the genesis of the Polish Free Forces in Iraq and Syria in the early years of WW2, formed from soldiers reluctantly released by the Soviet Union. The Carpathian Lancers were a reconnaissance unit and initially served with the Kresowa Division in the Polish II Corps, under General Anders. Later, they were assigned the Divisional recce unit for the 2nd Warsaw Armoured Division.

The badge was worn on the collar with a blue and red pennant-shaped felt backing.

This example comes from a small hoard discovered in the Polish Club in London some years ago, and as such is in 'not issued' condition. White metal (possibly nickel steel) with brooch pin fastening and no marks.
