CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS (CAM)

Also known as a CAM or camshaft angle sensor, the camshaft position sensor is located on the cylinder head of the engine and it tells the vehicle's ECU when the first cylinder is at ‘top dead centre’ so that it can calculate the timing of the injection pulse. The main indication of a failed camshaft position sensor is the illumination of the engine warning light on the vehicle's dashboard combined with weak/jerky acceleration and possibly even engine stalling due to the injectors providing the incorrect fuel supply. These sensors usually fail due to damage being caused to it by corrosion, vibration and/or water or oil, the cable should also be checked for any cuts or splits.
