Junkers company was amongst the contenders for a RFP
for a bomber (making use of non-strategic materials, i.e. wood and steel) and
submitted the Junkers EF 130 project to RLM
(Reichsluftfahrtministerium,
German Air Ministry).
While first designs (Ju EF 130.0) showed a
conventional propeller-driven plane, the final design was a quite advanced
concept.
Is was projected to be an all-wing bomber, which was to
have 4 tons of pay-load (to be accomodated within the fuselage and at two
pylons beneath the fuselage and at further pylons beneath the wings). Max.
speed was projected to be 990 km/h. The nosebow was to accomodate two or three
crew members in a fully glazed canopy (similar to Arado Ar E 555).
Due to its projected high speed, no defensive armament
was foreseen (eventually two pairs of fixed maschine guns each firing forward
and backwards were contemplated).
Propulsion was planned by way of four BMW 003 jet
engines (but alternative power units were discussed
also).
This project stayed on the drawing board like so many
others at the closing stages of WW II.
The project shown here allows to build the EF 130 with
alternate jet engines by Porsche, which had been also a projected at the same
time.
