Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the first Volkswagen, the people's car that was supposed to power Germany, was unveiled in 1938. A huge factory had been prepared but with the outbreak of the war only militarized versions such as the Typ 82 Kuebelwagen and the Typ 166 Schwimmwagen (amphibious). The Schwimmwagen was produced from 1941 to 1944 and is now particularly sought after by collectors. In March 2020, a restored 1944 model was sold on Amelia Island (United States) for € 130,060.
