No battery cover.  There is a very small amount of black electrical tape remains on the remote (shown in photos) but it is not sticky.  I was able to get it to drive forward and backward, turn circles and do some fun little spins but I was not able to get it to do a wheelie. Fun little toy. May be a gear issue inside.  Most likely for parts and repair.  I did not take apart the car and look inside.  Not shipped with batteries.
