About Lentilky:

The production of Lentilky started in 1907 at the Holešovice factory, where it is still largely produced today. The name was given to them a few years after their creation by Philipp Kneisl, founder of the Holešovice factory when he had the name Lentilky registered. Their name comes from the Latin lenticula, which means lens.

Lentilky are chocolate candies in the shape of a regular lens with a multicolored sugar coating manufactured by Nestlé. Smarties in the Czech Republic are manufactured by Sfinx, part of the Nestlé concern, in Holešov. It has been produced here for the most part since 1907. So, before the M & M's.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia these products are known under the traditional name Lentilky, in other countries similar products are sold under the name Smarties. Smarties, although some types are manufactured by the same company as Lentilky, have the shape of an irregular lens (as opposed to regular Lentilky), contain a larger proportion of milk chocolate because they have a thinner sugar crust, which in addition contains only natural dyes, such as carmine, but which also contain Lentilky.
