Pair 18" Maxolite Cobalt Blue Porcelain Light Fixture Shade Industrial Barn VTG
Manufactured circa 1918-1920's by Maxolite.
Back when these lights were manufactured, blue porcelain shades were far more expensive to produce than their white or green counterparts, thus they cost substantially more. So much more in fact, people rarely bought them. This resulted in fewer being produced, fewer surviving and higher cost for the ones that did. These shades also have a rare ventilated top to allow heat to escape. A side effect allows a bit of light to escape also, just beautiful.
For those of you looking for cosmetic perfection, these lights are absolutely not for you. Looking for vintage appearance and electrical perfection, keep reading. They have large chips, rust etc. You can see remnants of old touch-ups on the bottom side, I removed most of it. If you want your light to look vintage and perform like new and safely, then you found your light! These are in C- to D condition, all the patina has been well earned.
In order to allow the light to function as designed, I've added a 2 inch machined extension between the original brass fitter and a new UL listed socket. This allows the bulb to extend an additional 2 inches into the shade for better illumination. Today's bulbs are far shorter than they were when this light was manufactured. The extension is also perfect for the use of LED bulbs. (Don't let your bulbs get lost in the neck).
The original Benjamin swivel hanger will allow the light to hang plumb even from a ceiling that is not level. It also helps protects the lights from bumps and bruises if struck.
From the ceiling to the bottom of the shades is 21". The non-original down-rods are 8" long. 3" and 6" also available free of charge for the asking. The length of the wire will accommodate up to a 36 inch rod, available at your local hardware store.
The light will be shipped in several pieces to be re-assembled by the buyer.
