IOM CHIEF CONSTABLE ANNUAL REPORT 1959
The Isle of Man had its own separate mini police force with less than 100 officers even in 1959, including the chief constable and ONE Chief inspector. AN OFFICER WAS COMMENDED FOR SOLVING A CRIME within minute but another dismissed for neglect of duty. Sulby police station was ruinous so was shut and to reach the CID in Douglas ENTAILED ascending fifty stairs. A white version of the UK POLICE HELMET WAS INTRODUCED DURING THE YEAR. Five children were birched during the year, four of them for larceny, the youngest to be birched being eleven.
