GEM MINT unmarked unused unopened 1985 TRIPLE CROWN PROGRAM SET

VINTAGE 38 YEAR OLD TRIPLE CROWN PROGRAMS!

SPEND A BUCK won The Kentucky Derby easily with Angel Cordero aboard and then broke tradition bypassing the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Instead of going for The Triple Crown he raced in the Jersey Derby at Garden State in which he was eligible for and won a huge bonus from Garden State sweeping events there.

To avoid this from happening again, in 1986 they added a $5,000,000 bonus to any horse who could sweep the Triple Crown and this went on for over 20 years but no one ever collected as it took until 2015 before there was another Triple Crown winner.

The Kentucky Derby program has a small pinhole on the front cover about an inch down from the top right. The pinhole doesn't go thru or touch any of the races pages. I believe the pinhole had something to do with the printing process that year. ( I've always seen this pinhole on 85' Derby programs. Aside from that, the program is pristine perfectly mint.

TANK'S PROSPECT won the Preakness in track record and stakes record time. His track record held for near 30 years when they recently gave SECRETARIAT the Preakness race record time which was long deserved as the teletimer malfunctions when SECRETARIAT won in 1973.  The Preakness program is a large foot long program.

I carefully opened the Preakness program to add additional photos which has the pictures and some stories on all 11 Triple Crown Winners. SIR BARTON, GALLANT FOX, OMAHA, WAR ADMIRAL, WHIRLAWAY, COUNT FLEET, ASSULT, CITATION, SECRETARIAT, SEATTLE SLEW and AFFIRMED.

CREME FRAICHE won THE BELMONT STAKES ( 4th of Woody Stephen's 5 straight Belmont Stakes winners)

You get all 3 mint programs from the host tracks. THE 1985 KENTUCKY DERBY, THE 1985 PREAKNESS & THE 1985 BELMONT STAKES.

The 1984 Champion 2 Year old Colt, CHIEF'S CROWN is in all 3 of these races. He is a grandson of SECRETARIAT out of SIX CROWNS and CHIEF'S CROWN is the only horse to go off as the favorite in all 3 of The Triple Crown races without winning one. He was also the winner of the first Breeders Cup race ever run. ( The 1984 Breeders Cup Juvenile Male ) . CHIEFS CROWN became an excellent Sire extending the bloodline of SECRETARIAT!

All three rare hard to find programs in pristine condition!
