The Tester will sit down with you and ask you a series of questions, very similar to the questions contained in my mock exam paper, and you will be required to answer them in a competent, confident manner giving full explanations to the tester.
The aim of the theory test is to ensure that candidates have the basic knowledge and practical skills that are required for each piece of Plant Machinery to the standard of the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS).
The theory test is a recorded verbal 1-to-1 test taken in exam conditions. The tester will ask you a set of questions, in a random order, and mark your responses. The pass mark is 80%.
The test is conducted in the format of a professional discussion that will last approximately 75 minutes with the whole test being recorded by audio recording equipment so that CPCS invigilators can check on the validity of the test.
This set of questions and answers is a guide to let you prepare for the exam and allow you to study at home or with a colleague.
The theory questions you will be asked may differ slightly or may be worded differently depending on your training provider but to be fair, how many different ways can you frame a question such as
"What safety checks must you undertake before taking a machine onto the public highway?"
If you work through the questions in my document over and over it will become second nature and any other questions that you face on the day will be common sense, simply take a deep breath and think about what has been asked of you.
