About the picture:
Cathedral of the Nativity and of the bell tower, city of Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, were built in 1836, architect Melnikov.
In 1812, part of the Moldavian Principality was freed Russia from the Turkish yoke. And according to Lutsk contract signed April 13, 1711 between the Russian Tsar Peter the Great and ruler of the Principality of Moldavia Prince Dmitry Kantemir, Moldova, preserving autonomy, passed under the patronage of the Russian Empire.
In 1813, the Diocese of Chişinău was open and there was a need to build the cathedral in the center of Chisinau.
A lot of effort for the construction of the cathedral belongs to Archbishop Demetrios.
The Archbishop asked the governor of the Novorossiysk Territory and Bessarabia, the hero of the War of 1812, Count Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov obtain for highest resolution (that is, the emperor) for the construction of the cathedral three-patronal church with a dedication to the main chapel of the Nativity.
In this blessed and namolennye Cathedral I am often with my family. And through prayer to God, the Virgin Mary and the Orthodox saint, get great spiritual support and strength for the work.
