An antique Regency period Papier Mache decanter stand or bottle coaster that has been hand painted with enamels and gilding, with three enamelled floriate cartouches on a gilded ground  separated with  a stylised palm leaf and Greek key pattern. This highly decorative horizontally ribbed cylindrical shaped wine coaster has a replaced baize pad to the base. It dates from the early 19th century during the Georgian - Regency period circa 1820.

Since the 18th century elegant dining tables have had wine coasters or bottle slides, not only to prevent spillage from a bottle or decanter on a tablecloth or directly onto a polished table, they also prevent one decanter touching another and thus reduces the risk of chipping of cut-glass decanters. Additionally they allow the bottle or decanter to be slid across the table, “coasting”, from one diner to another.

This antique decanter stand or bottle slide is in very good antique condition with some minor wear inside from use. The green baize has been replaced. All commensurate with age and use. Please see the images.

We have a similar, slightly larger, decanter stand offered for sale separately. This one here, stores neatly inside the other one, please see the two last images.

This is a beautiful item to add to any collection of antique Papier Mache, Regency items or Oenology. It is a very decorative display piece and eminently suitable for use. It would enhance any dining table.
