An antique Brampton Derbyshire brown salt glazed stoneware beehive money box dating from the mid nineteenth century circa 1850. The body is of a turned round shape tapering from a narrow base to a wider shoulder, which in turn narrows to a central stepped knop with a conical tapered top. There are two incised lines on the shoulder delineating the knop and a pierced slot for the coins.

The money box is made of a buff coloured stoneware with a rich mottled brown dip glaze to the body. The money box is unmarked, as is usually the case with stoneware items dating from this period, but was most likely produced by Brampton or one of the Derbyshire potteries of the mid-19th century.

This antique stoneware money box is in good antique condition with a few small chips to the edge of the base - please see the images. A nice item to add to any collection of antique English stoneware, money boxes, Brampton or Derbyshire ware.
