"I loved this book. I’m just eternally grateful to Kitty Molony (Katherine Goodale) for having a diary and keeping meticulous notes, and for Minnie (Maddern) Fiske convincing her friend that it wouldn’t be a betrayal of Edwin Booth’s trust to publish her stories of him. The way Kitty writes really feels almost like fiction—that’s not an insult but rather a compliment, as most things to do with history can tend toward the side of dryness, sucking away at any sort of vivacity to give just pure, straight facts.

"Her book really felt alive and sparkling, crackling with a soul. It was as though, for these few hours I spent with the tome, that time stripped away and I could be in Edwin Booth’s presence, a man who died 97 years before I was born and whose movements are lost to time, leaving behind only photographs, writings, and a recording of a voice warped and marred on old technology. I’ll never get to know what he sounded like—not truly—nor how he moved, or acted. I’ll never see his smile or hear his laugh, or bear witness to his frustration, sorrow, or elation, but with this book, Kitty Molony pulls down those barriers and allows the reader to see the life that she herself once knew." ~ goodreads book review

About Us:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free.

We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.

Customer Service:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!

Packaging:

We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.

Delivery:

We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
