The Utah UFO Display: A Biologist's Report
MYSTERIOUS LIGHTS OVER PHOENIX

By Frank B. Salisbury

Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 286 Pages — Publisher: Devin-Adair Co; First Edition (1974)

This book is about events that presaged the bizarre paranormal activity at the now-famous "Skinwalker Ranch" in the Uinta Valley of Utah.

From the dust jacket flaps: Dr. Salisbury's book is built around the carefully documented and hitherto unreported accounts of a variety of individuals - housewives, garage attendants, truck drivers, storekeepers and school teachers who, over a period of time, have witnessed a most spectacular display of UFOs in the Uintah Basin area in the state of Utah, and who have systematically recorded them. These sightings run into the hundreds. Only the very best and most thoroughly investigated are included here in the form of interviews, after which the author, a scientist, examines the possibilities, plus the various pros and cons involved.

Those who have already seen UFOs need no convincing and will perhaps enjoy reading of similar sightings by a number of other, essentially sane people. Those who have not, will of course entertain a certain skepticism. Either way, THE UTAH UFO DISPLAY makes fascinating reading.

Frank Salisbury is a noted biologist from Utah State University presently on loan to the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C. He has produced a carefully documented book from the hardnosed point of view of a scientist examining one of today's most baffling phenomena: Unidentified Flying Objects. Are they real or are they figments of imagination? After the painstaking examination of over 68 witnesses to a display continuing to this day, there is little doubt that there is something - an extraordinary something which only the expansion of human understanding can eventually explain.

The author suggests that it is possible that UFOs have visited our planet from time to time throughout all human history but that, being unexplained, they may have been declared to be "heavenly lights" or "visions" and relegated to the realm of myth and legend.

Is it not logical, Salisbury asks, to assume that in a universe so vast and ageless, another planet somewhere, is reaching out - and has touched earth? Could it not be equally argued that after all, our earth is but an experimental station and we, merely the creatures of some great universal plan - whirling through space and stretching our tiny minds to comprehend our environment and the great challenges of our time?

About the Author:

Frank B. Salisbury, Director of the Plant Science Department at the State University of Utah, was born in Springville, Utah in 1926 and has spent most of his life in that state.

Dr. Salisbury received his degrees in botany and biochemistry from the University of Utah in 1951 and 1952 and earned his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology in 1955. While a graduate student at Caltech, he wrote a paper on the possibilities of life on Mars which was developed into an article in Science magazine in 1962. Correspondence generated by this article led to an interest in unidentified flying objects. A second article in Bio-Science led to this book.
