Understanding The Ordering Process

Selecting The Correct Size for You:

When placing your order, simply choose the correct base size that will be needed for your hearth. For example, if your hearth is 130cm across at the widest point and 85cm in depth, you should opt for our 150cm x 100cm base size. While it may be tempting to select a smaller base size due to its lower price, it's important to choose the correct size for your project. If you order the wrong size for your required project we will have to cancel the whole order and then you will need to re-order the correct size

Choosing Your Edge Detail

  • Clean Cut Sawn Square Edge: This choice comes at the lowest cost, making it a budget-friendly option. However, it's important to note that this is an unworked edge, and there is a possibility of minor chips being visible along the top leading edges. Additionally, the corners and top edges may appear sharp. While this option offers a clean and modern contemporary look, it may not be suitable for homes with children or pets

  • Chamfered Bevelled Edge: Our chamfered bevelled edge stands as our most popular choice; it leaves your hearth with a finished top leading edge for a safer option.

Choosing Your Surface Finish:

Honed Finish: A honed finish is characterized by its smooth, matte appearance with a soft, non-reflective texture.

Polished Finish: A polished finish is characterized by its glossy, reflective appearance. The result is a mirror-like surface that reflects light and surrounding objects.

What we need you to do:

Once you have completed the purchase, Please can you to provide us with a detailed and accurate drawing. The drawing doesn’t need to be too fancy, but it’s important that all dimensions are clear and accurate, ideally in MM or CM. Once we have received your drawing, we will make an in-house copy that we will pass over to our workshop, ready for production, as we will be cutting your order from the drawing you send us. It is worth noting that dispatch and delivery times may be affected if you delay getting your drawing to us.

Single T-Shape or Two-Piece Option

We will provide your hearth in a single piece unless you ask us for a 2-piece (Front and Back Rectangles).

Important Note - Expansion Gaps:

When sending your dimensions, it's important to allow for expansion gaps. Natural stone can expand and contract when exposed to high temperatures. Allowing for this will prevent any potential issues down the line. Please note that we will cut exactly to the drawing you send us; any expansion gaps need to be calculated by yourself and will not be done by us. For your convenience, we recommend the following expansion gaps anywhere in which the stone is near a solid wall

  • Decorative Hearths: We suggest a 5mm expansion gap on all decorative hearths. This slight allowance provides a bit of wiggle room while maintaining the hearth's aesthetic appeal.

  • Wood Burner Installations: For wood burner installations, a 5-10mm expansion gap is recommended. This range offers the flexibility needed to accommodate temperature changes.

  • Open Fires: In the case of open fires, a slightly larger 10-15mm expansion gap is advised. This allows for the stone's natural movement while ensuring its structural stability.

Our singular aim is to help you select the perfect fire hearth from our diverse range. Trust in Primethorpe Paving to deliver top-tier materials and unparalleled customer service.

Our Fire Hearth Offerings

We take immense pride in our unwavering commitment to ethically sourced fire hearth products. Unlike other suppliers who may acquire items from various sources, we solely procure from trusted quarries and factories with whom we have nurtured long-standing relationships. This dedication to quality has fostered a loyal customer base of returning clients and regular hearth enthusiasts. Our fire hearth products not only boast exceptional quality but also possess the uniformity necessary when selecting natural stone and porcelain fire hearths.

Our inventory consistently features a wide variety of fire hearth products, with over 15,000 square meters of inventory available always. Our range encompasses an array of natural stone and porcelain fire hearths, ensuring that you find the perfect fit for your needs.

We firmly adhere to the philosophy that "you get what you pay for," especially when it comes to acquiring natural stone and porcelain fire hearths. Our years of experience have taught us that suspiciously low prices from other suppliers often come with hidden drawbacks. These can include subpar quality, inconsistencies, and compromised sizing.

To ensure that our customers exclusively receive top-quality fire hearth products, each item undergoes meticulous inspection upon arrival at our Peterborough depot, having been directly transported from the port. This rigorous scrutiny ensures the identification and rectification of any issues before dispatch. Conversely, many suppliers operate from port warehouses to cut costs, potentially resulting in third-party handling by personnel inexperienced in fire hearth quality assessment.

About Our Listings

We want to emphasize that while our listing images accurately depict the colour and type of stone advertised, slight variations in size or edge type may exist compared to the images. The product description remains the definitive point of reference. The images serve as a visual representation of the fire hearth's colour and finish, which may differ slightly in size or edge type from the specific product.

Additionally, certain listing images may depict the fire hearth when wet or sealed, resulting in a slightly darker appearance than its actual hue. Moreover, environmental factors such as lighting conditions or weather may influence the appearance of the product in photographs.

Our aim is to provide you with detailed and accurate descriptions of our fire hearth products. However, there are certain factors to consider when making a purchase decision for these natural stone offerings:

Variation in Colours: Please be aware that colour descriptions are subjective and may exhibit variations between different hearth products. For instance, while one piece might display a shade of grey, another could feature a more brownish hue. To address any concerns you might have, we strongly recommend obtaining a sample piece. This allows you to observe a small representative section of the hearth before finalizing your complete order.

Natural Imperfections: It's important to note that our hearth products may possess natural imperfections intrinsic to their composition. These include characteristics like unique textures, mineral lines, markings, iron oxide spots, as well as natural indents and raised areas. Please understand that these attributes are not considered defects, but rather integral components of the stone's innate appearance.

Advertised Thickness and Tolerance: The thickness specifications provided in our advertisements serve as general guidance. We do permit a tolerance level of up to 20% (or 5mm) on certain stated measurements before deeming it unacceptable. While a significant portion of the hearth pieces will adhere to the advertised thickness, occasional variations may occur where some measurements slightly exceed or fall below this standard.

Tolerance in Dimensions: You might encounter minor deviations in the dimensions of our hearth pieces. For instance, hearths that are marketed as 90cm (900mm) could potentially measure 90.5cm (905mm) or, conversely, 89.5cm (895mm). These slight discrepancies are within the scope of acceptable tolerance.

Sanding or Filling: In certain instances where a hearth's aesthetic appeal is compromised by imperfections or minor chips, we may use effective methods such as sanding the surface or applying robust epoxy resin.

In essence, our goal is to offer you a comprehensive understanding of our fire hearth products. We aim to facilitate an informed choice that aligns with your preferences and requirements. Should you have any further inquiries or require assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team. Your satisfaction remains our top priority.

Returning unwanted items

We recognize that unforeseen circumstances can lead to a change of plans. In the unlikely event that you find it necessary to return your order, rest assured that we're here to assist you every step of the way. We offer a 30-day window for returns, provided the product remains in its original packaging and retains its sellable condition. To ensure a seamless process, we're pleased to facilitate the return on your behalf. However, we kindly request that you ensure the product is adequately packaged for transit and readily accessible for a smooth pallet truck pickup.

It's important to be aware that any costs associated with returning the goods will be deducted from your final refund.

For returns of standard size products, a nominal restocking fee of 20% will be applied. This fee is designed to defray the administrative costs incurred in processing the order.

For returns of bespoke cut to size option, a nominal restocking fee of 50% will be applied. This fee is designed to defray not only the administrative costs incurred in processing the order but the workshop time in cutting the hearth to your required size

Rest assured, refunds for the returned goods will be initiated within 14 days of our depot receiving the returned items and conducting a thorough inspection.

Upon the arrival of your hearth, please take a moment to carefully unwrap the packaging and inspect the product for any signs of damage before proceeding to sign the delivery paperwork. While instances of damages during transit are infrequent, they can still occur. In the unfortunate event that your hearth arrives in a damaged condition, it's advisable to capture photographs of the damaged item and promptly decline the delivery. The courier will then facilitate the return of the damaged hearth to our facility. Kindly ensure that you report any damages to us within 24 hours, including accompanying imagery. Once we're notified, we'll initiate the process of arranging a replacement.

It's important to note that while we strive to schedule deliveries for specific days, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally lead to a delay of up to 24 hours. We kindly urge you to refrain from scheduling any tradesmen until the physical arrival of the product. Should you choose to engage a contractor before the goods are received, please be aware that we cannot assume responsibility for any resulting loss of earnings.

Furthermore, it is your responsibility to inform us of any potential access issues before placing your order. Keep in mind that our delivery vehicle could weigh up to 18 tonnes and may require wider access. If you anticipate tight access, you may request a 7.5-ton vehicle for the delivery.

In cases where no one is available to sign for the goods on the agreed-upon delivery day, re-delivery charges may apply. To avoid these charges, drivers have the option to leave the goods without a signature after prior communication. However, opting for an unsigned delivery will waive your ability to report shortages or damages. Ensuring your presence during delivery is crucial to avoid such situations.

Our nationwide delivery is conducted by a third-party courier, employing a tail-lift and manual pump truck service. They guarantee a drop-off at the curb or the closest accessible point on a solid surface. Please be aware that the delivery personnel will not enter your residence to place the goods indoors. If you have a driveway suitable for the delivery or prefer the lorry to access it, this arrangement is solely between you and the Haulier and does not form a part of the contract between Primethorpe Paving Ltd and yourself. Consequently, if your property features loose gravel, soft or uneven ground, or inclines/declines, the pump truck may not be able to traverse it, and the product will be left at the nearest suitable location. In some instances, at the driver's discretion, the goods may be moved to a driveway or front garden.

The courier plans delivery routes daily, typically divided into morning and afternoon runs. Deliveries are typically scheduled between 8:00 AM and 6:30 PM. If you've provided an accurate mobile number, we will request the courier to send you text notifications when the goods depart the depot, provide an estimated two-hour arrival window, and ideally, a 30-minute advance notice from the driver before arrival. Please note that the driver's call is a request and cannot be guaranteed. To ensure effective communication, kindly provide us with your up-to-date mobile number. Feel free to email us your contact information if you suspect we might not have it on file.
