Sterling CHARM

by BEAU

Excellent Details!

GREAT CHARM - Likely made in tribute to the Alaskan Statehood of 1959

This fantastic fellow is one of the Circumpolar folk that includes the indigenous peoples of Alaska, Siberia, Canada, Greenland, and the Russian Far East.  He wears the cold-weather garments historically made from animal hide and fur: usually Caribou and/or seal skin parkas, pants, mittens, and boots.    He also wears snow shoes and carries a spear or harpoon.

See the last photo FYI, of an actual Inuit -- could have been the model for this charm!

Very shiny, likely due to Rhodium plating as was common in the era

Rhodium is in the Platinum family of metals. It was often used in the 50s-70s to plate sterling silver to avoid tarnishing,  In the Rhodium plating process, 925 Sterling Silver is given a nickel underplate prior to Rhodium plating. The nickel is magnetic and causes the magnetic attraction.

Hallmarked his back for Sterling, marked BEAU STERLING on the jumping

Expect typical evidence of age, handling, storage, perhaps a dight of tarnish or dust in the nooks and crannies, Patina left as found for new owner

FYI

Aunt Nancy loved Silver… especially bracelets: Bangles, Chains, Charm Bracelets, plus Charms... and we inherited a lot of them - from her collections, as well as a huge old inventory from her Gift Shop, The Little Red Hen, now gone (circa 1940s to 1980s).. She often made custom charm bracelets for customers who loved her Retro post WW2 shop===  She also loved sterling bracelets, necklaces, pins, brooches... And great Mid-Century costume jewelry... Now moving forward some of the beautiful pieces that no one in the family claimed or wanted, see our other auctions for other sterling — inc. hollowware: salt cellar dishes, dips, standing salts, serving spoons, other flatware, too
