Prefer slightly stony and limestone soils in cool mountainous areas.

To sow, it must be cold stratified for a minimum of 2 months, then leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature for one day and then sow in a seedbed with a sandy substrate that drains well in a sheltered, warm and bright place. 

Germination is very irregular , it can be from a few weeks after the stratification to several months if the environmental conditions are not good .
