One of only 300 copies of this "Gift Edition" were printed, having been simultaneously issued in hardcover along with first paperback edition in January, 1961, Sewn signatures bound in red cloth and boards, lettered in blue on front cover and spine, with cream endpapers. Issued without dustjacket. 48 pp. (Cook, 29; Morgan A31) 6 1/2" x 5 1/4". Title printed in red. No printing notice. Advertised by City Lights as a 'Gift Edition'. A wee bit of rubbing to corners. Previous owner's name to front free endpaper. NOTE: 9 original ink drawings penned in this book by previous owner, a Mary Hamilton, (8 below the text of poems, one to to the rear endpaper). Very Good.

Ralph T. and Lori A. Cook's City Lights Books: A Descriptive Bibliography (29, pp. 31-32) writes: "The first printing of this title was issued in two editions as follows: "a) Paperbound edition... [and] b) hardbound edition, published simultaneously with the paperbound edition at $3.00 (price does not appear on the book); 300 copies printed letterpress by Villiers Publications in London.
