George Washington (1780), portrait by John Trumbull

U.S. #712 commemorates the 200th birth anniversary of George Washington. It was painted by famed artist John Trumbull in 1780 – years before Trumbull met Washington. It is believed to have been based on a portrait by Charles W. Peale.
