Packed roses can be kept dormant in a cold place up to a few months waiting for proper time to be planted in a garden.
If a packed rose is kept in a warm place it can start growing in a package. If it happens the rose should be planted immediately in order to save it. If it’s impossible to plant the rose immediately to the garden, it should be at least planted into a big pot/container with good flower soil to grow in a cooler place waiting for transplantation to the garden when the weather is acceptable.
Before planting, the rose should be unpacked and the roots should be soaked in slightly warmish water for 2-3 hours. The rose is grafted on a strong rootstock which makes it fast growing and very resistant. It is very important to plant the rose rather deep – the graft should be situated 5-10 cm (2”-4”) below the soil line.
Before planting
the rose, refresh the roots, shortening them with 1 or 2 cm. This will
stimulate the formation of young roots. Dig a hole about 30 cm deep. Mix
the excavated soil with well-rotted manure in a ratio of 1: 1. Place
the rose in the dug hole, not folding the root system and making sure
the graft stays exactly at ground level. Pour soil near the roots and
compact very well. Do not remove the wax from the stem! After planting, water abundantly until water is
retained on top. This helps the soil to settle better around the roots
and to set off successfully.
Always check the soil moisture and keep the plant hydrated all time. Do not over water it.
It is important to know that these
flowers do not look at the water like the sun. It is not good to water
the plants too often. The rose is watered only at the root and in the early dawn or
afternoon. It is good that water does not reach their leaves, because
they will turn black and dry out.
