Cover from WWII Swiss internment camp, used with Internment soldier stamp. Foreign combatants who were in the country at the start of the war or made it to Switzerland (for example, damaged Allied bombers who were able to limp as far as the Swiss border to escape German capture) were placed into internment camps to wait out the war. Escapees and some refugees were also placed in the camps.
