After World War II, German documents, equipment and specialists from Carl Zeiss Jena were transferred as reparations to Krasnogorskiy Mechanical Plant (KMZ), including documentation on the lens Carl Zeiss Biotar 2/58. The first Helios-44 was equipped with a mirror camera Start, 1958. The lens had a unique bayonet mount of optics, a diaphragm jumper and 13 petals of the diaphragm.
