Methylene Blue USP Grade 1% Aqueous Solution in 2 fl oz (60 ml) size


This USP-grade Methylene Blue solution is formulated as a 1% aqueous solution which is equivalent to 10 mg Methylene Blue per 1 ml of distilled water. No other chemicals have been added for preservation or stabilization. Nor does this product contain any ingredients such as glycerin, flavor, vitamin, heavy metal or minerals. Minimum purity was determined to be at least 99.50% by UV absorbance assay.

Regarded as "the first fully synthetic drug used in medicine," Methylene Blue was first prepared by German Jewish chemist Heinrich Caro in 1876 for the treatment of Malaria. Modern day use of Methylene Blue as a medication includes treating methemoglobinemia, a condition characterized by headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, poor muscle coordination and cyanosis (blue-colored skin). It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. In the laboratory, Methylene Blue is commonly used for staining cells and DNA embedded in biological samples. Recent scientific research has demonstrated potentials of Methylene Blue as a powerful antioxidant capable of scavenging harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing mitochondrial dysfunction (See scientific papers under Reference below).

The product should be stored in a cool environment away from any heat or light source. Avoid oxidation of the product by limiting exposure to open air.
