Another "BLAST FROM THE PAST" and a truly "MUSTY-DUSTY" from the AEROEMBLEM Private Collection. This patch was obtained directly from the desk (it was under a sheet of desk top sized plexi-glass) of a SSgt I noticed, as I was mopping his office area floor as a big-time 17 year old AF "newbie" with no rank at all - "Airman Basic", in an Admin Office of the 864th BS, here at Sheppard AFB, Texas. I explained that I was a collector of AF patches and was there a chance I could add his patch to my collection. (All of that conversation had about 50 SEARGENT and SIRS in it!). To my surprise he lifted the plexiglass-glass and gave it to me!
The 864th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) was equipped with B-52s and was stationed as a tenant unit at Sheppard AFB, Texas, from Activation on 1 Feb 1963, until Inactivation on 2 April 1966, under the 494th Bombardment Wing (Heavy), 2nd Air Force, Strategic Air Command. I was assigned to the Host Unit - Sheppard Technical training Center.
