Vintage 1960's Black Curly Persian Lamb Hip Length Coat

Mink Collar

Size 8-10-12

Fur collar closes with large hooks/eyes

Coat has three [3] large buttons, with hook&eye at top and slide in front pockets

 

I am a size 6-8 so my ‘guesstimate’ this will fit 8-10-12 with 44" underarm to underarm measurement, 22" back neck length~[top seam under collar to bottom hem in the back] and 19" sleeve [from shoulder seam to wrist, [sleeve is meant to be on the short side, for glamour.] 

No labels of any kind, it was most likely custom-made and the label removed at some point.

The short coats that are cropped length (above the hips) or the hip length are the best to pair with jeans, skirts or pants. These coats are best to elongate petite women’s legs and make a short woman appear taller and leaner. Also looks great with mid-calf length or maxi dress.

When did the Persian lamb coat become popular?

Persian lamb coats were very popular in the early 20th century though the 1970s. After they waned in popularity they were not as easily found, which is why vintage lamb coats are quite valuable. What is a Persian lamb coat? A Persian lamb coat is a coat made from lamb fur, also known as broadtail.

 

The term “Persian Lamb” can refer to many different types of lamb fur, sometimes called Astrakhan, Karakul or Broadtail. All of these refer to lamb, but at different ages after birth (or even before, taken from stillborn lambs).
