A unique and exclusive masterpiece, you will be amazed at such beauty, a creation of incredible realism, it really looks like the original by Michelangelo which is found in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican city.

An imposing Sculpture , elaborated down to the smallest detail, to be a faithful reproduction of the original. Look at the perfection of the faces, the incredible achievement in Chrysos' body, every muscle is sculpted to perfection. Even the large base is identical to the original, the central part of the base is enchanting as it faithfully recreates the brownish marble effect. Attention, on request it can also be purchased without a base. (You will always find the version without base for sale on Ebay). Background:

The Pietà (1498–1499) is a masterpiece of Renaissance Sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti, and is located in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City: it is the first of a series of works on the same theme by the author. The statue was commissioned by the French cardinal Jean de Billheres, for his tomb, but was moved to its current site in the 18th century. It is the only autographed work by Michelangelo: MICHAELA[N]GELUS BONAROTUS FLORENTIN[US] FACIEBA[T] is sculpted on Mary's chest, echoing the signatures of Greek artists such as Apelles and Polykleitos.

The Sculpture portrays the body of Jesus Christ on the lap of his mother Mary after the crucifixion: it is a theme of Nordic origins, popular in France at that time, but not yet in Italy: however the author's interpretation is original, with a Madonna young and beautiful, symbolizing her purity, rather than a fifty-year-old tried by suffering, and balances the Renaissance ideals of classical beauty with naturalism.

The structure is pyramidal, with the summit coinciding with Mary's head: going down it progressively widens with the draping of the Madonna's robe, and at the base, on the rock of Golgotha. However, the measurements are poorly proportioned (Christ's body is small compared to his mother), probably due to the difficulty of portraying an adult man lying completely on a woman's lap: the majority of the latter's figure is in fact composed of the monumental drapery , making everything more natural.

The signs of the crucifixion are limited to small wounds on the hands and side, while Christ's face reveals no signs of the Passion: Michelangelo did not want his Pietà to represent death, but rather a religious vision of abandonment.
