Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rarer variant of the 1950's era Shure 55 S microphone. Shure Brothers sold under license it's 55 S to only a couple different American companies and Stromberg Carlson was one of them.  This MC-41 is a 1955 model and comes with the period Atlas DS-5 model desk model stand as seen in the pictures provided in which to display.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Shure catalog I have and it's basic characteristics.

Stromberg Carlson was based out of Rochester, NY at that time and was a high quality manufacturer of electronics and other goods such as radio and a whole slew of audio equipment.

There was no difference between the 55S and the MC-41 mic. Just the label of the brand that it was sold under. Both are technically Shure microphones.

It should be noted that this mic is in working condition with it's original cardioid dynamic element but the signal is weaker and the tone lacks bass. Like many older 55S model mics this element has been compromised so it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes until the element is properly replaced. This mic was originally intended for singing and broadcasting. This MC-41 has the adjustable impedance switch for low, medium and high impedance and the switch on this mic works just fine.

As you can see the satin chrome body shows very lite wear with small scuff marks and scratches. Despite the cosmetic wear there are no fractures, dents or engravings anywhere.   The ribs are completely straight.

The typical royal blue silk screens shows very lite fading and a couple small rips in the silk screens. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and a wide degree of tilt.   The S.C label looks pretty darn nice and you can see by the serial number that it's a 1955 model.

This mic is hardly perfect but it's a very good example overall and I would rate it an conservative 7 + cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10. Worthy of any vintage mic collection.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

It's a period Atlas DS-5 model desk stand that makes for a very stable platform and compliments the mic nicely. The DS-5 was first introduced by Atlas in the early 1950's and is still being manufactured today though the new ones come from China. This is an older early American model.

This stand has very lite wear as you can see. Just a few scuff marks but still has it's original dark grey paint. The chrome riser looks pretty good as well with lite wear. Mic with stand is appx 13 inches tall X 6 inches wide.

The stand has 3 new bottom pads as the original were all but missing.

Mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have if you don't like the desk stand.

A great conversation piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office.
